Terrie Odabi's 2016 CD Release "My Blue Soul" Ranked

One of Living Blues Top 50 Blues Albums for 2016

Terrie Odabi is easily the most dynamic blues and soul woman to have emerged in the Bay Area since Etta James came out of San Francisco’s Fillmore District in the Fifties. Terrie has a powerful set of pipes, writes terrific tunes, leads a kicking band and has onstage movements that perfectly match the rhythms of her material. Surely stardom awaits her. -Lee Hildebrand, contributor to the *San Francisco Chronicle, *East Bay News Group and *Living Blues Magazine

Few vocalists own the stage like Terrie Odabi. When the statuesque Oakland native begins to sing, a hush falls over the audience. They’re about to take a ride through the highs and lows of soul music, led by a beautiful singer who packs her shows with heart-pumping energy and poignant memories. Whether it’s opening for Average White Band or Lenny Williams, or performing at the Concord Pavilion or the Fillmore Jazz Festival, Terrie’s finely honed instrument is matched by her generous spirit and wit.

"Has anyone here lost their mojo? Raise your hand if you’re suffering from a mojo deficiency,” she asks the crowd at the Monterey Blues Festival. From that point on, she has them in the palm of her hand as she proceeds to testify. “Terrie’s got soul and charm. Her voice soars and draws you in and makes you feel good. She is full of surprises!” enthuses trombonist Steve Turre, member of the Saturday Night Live Band and professor at the Julliard School of Music. Turre, who has performed and co-written with Terrie, dubs her “a jewel from the Bay Area.

Terrie performs original stirring blues straight from the soul. Her compelling arrangements create a contemporary sound that support Terrie's witty lyrics and compelling voice. She takes pride in her urban roots, appealing to a wide, new audience.

This is one man that can send any woman out of her mind with his soulful voice and moving guitar music. His self titled CD was spoken of and described as :
This month was Muddy Waters Month on "Blues Edition" which is a radio program I host on Saturday nights in the Chicago area. This week's show was dedicated to Muddy's legacy - covers of Muddy's songs ect. Well the listening audience was unanimous that Alvon's version of "Hoochie Coochie Man" was spectacular. It is a cutting edge rendition which holds its own with Muddy's original which is, of course, one of the top ten blues recordings of all time. Chicago is drenched in blues talent (we're proud of it too) and Alvon can go head to head with the best around here.
Greg Freerksen, host "Blues Edition" Public Radio from College of DuPage, 90.9 FM WDCB, Glen Ellyn, Illinois 7-9 pm Saturdays.

His second CD was spoken of and described as :
If there ever was a blues album that could change the face of every blues album to come, it's got to be this one. Alvon delivers the blues in a smooth, exciting, and energetic fashion. The thing that I liked most about this album, was that everyone on it seemed like that were having a great time playing the music. This is real blues with a touch of flavor. I loved every single song on this album. The lyrics where great, the guitars where smokin', and the feeling was oh so right! I like to feel the music, and there wasn't a problem at all with the feeling being presented on this album. It's too bad I can't hear blues like this more often. I am truly honored to review this music. The Blues may have grown up, but it's still as good as it's ever been. Alvon shows that here with every note and every word.

Taylor P. Collins
Taylor P. Collins
Ms Taylor P Collins has carved out a remarkable career as a Blues vocalist and bandleader. Far away from her native home of Norfolk, VA, Collins is one of Northern California’s most valued treasures, who is highly revered by her music constituents and fans alike.

Mentored by her dear friend, the late vocalist Ruth Brown, Collins developed and honed an original and impressionable blues style that unmistakably makes her one of the genre’s most commanding artists in both live and recorded performances. Her unique, impeccable appearance, along with her sophisticated and powerful vocal performances are why she has developed and maintained a fan base that has been consistently devoted and loyal throughout the years.

Ms Taylor P Collins’ has shared stages with some of music’s greatest performers such as the late Etta James, The Neville Brothers, Barbara Morrison, Albert Collins, and Gladys Knight. She has opened for John Handy, LaVerne Baker and Jefferson Starship, and performed with her mentor Miss Ruth Brown. When an artist can hold his/her own in that kind of company, it is no wonder she has been able to endure a career of longevity that many artists themselves cannot claim.

The Northern California Entertainers Music Awards recognized Taylor’s talent and nominated Taylor and her incredible 7 piece band in two categories for the 2016 awards: Female Blues Artist of the Year and Blues Band of the Year. Taylor and her band won the Blues Band of the Year Award and performed for the BB King Tribute portion of the awards show and rocked the house! She is also one of the Northern California Blues Artists to be featured in the upcoming
documentary “Every Day We Gots the Blues”. Now for the second year, Taylor has been nominated in three categories for 2017: the Northern California Female Blues Artist of the Year, Blues Band of the Year, and her hot new single “Strong Confident Woman” is nominated for the 2017 Northern
California Entertainers Music Awards Song of the Year. The awards show to be held at the Sacramento Convention Center in Sacramento, Ca on Saturday May 26 th , 2018. Garth Webber
Garth Webber
What do Miles Davis, Gregg Allman, Bill Champlin, Lydia Pense/Cold Blood, Merl Saunders, John Lee Hooker, Mose Allison, Boz Scaggs and Kingfish all have in common?

Guitarist: GARTH WEBBER

Long recognized by his peers for his dynamic style and technical dexterity, Webber is perhaps most highly regarded for his signature guitar tone. A first call player in the Jazz, Blues, Funk and Rock arenas, this Berkeley based musician is always in demand. Equally comfortable sharing the stage with Miles Davis as he is with John Lee Hooker, Webber has the unusual distinction of playing with people who are reknown for one specific style.

On the international road, Garth has touredEurope and South America with Miles Davis; the good old U.S. with Bob Weir and Kingfish; and the West Coast with Gregg Allman, Lydia Pense & Cold Blood, Merl Saunders, and The Blue Meanies.

Webber has also released three internationally sold solo CD's and has a fourth on the way! He has played on commercails for Levi's Jeans, Mattel Toys, Sizzler, AM PM Mini Market and more.

When Garth isn't playing, he's busy in his fully professional 48-track recording studio producing CD's for Bay area bands.
Zakiya Hooker
Zakiya Hooker
At first glance it would seem that Zakiya Hooker was born into the blues. After all, her father is blues legend John Lee Hooker. But rather than relying on her father, Zakiya has pursued life and her music on her own terms.

Zakiya was also a panelist, as well as a spoken word performer, at San Francisco's KQED-TV launch program for Scorsese's fall 2003 PBS-TV series, "The Blues"; at San Francisco's Herbst Theatre on
September 16, 2003.

Zakiya's music has carried her all over the world and given her the opportunity to perform for fans the world over. Zakiya has performed internationally in Paris, Amsterdam, London and Switzerland. Zakiya has performed at the world famous Fillmore Auditorium, the San Francisco Blues Festival and
